Award for Excellence in PhD Supervision

Award description

Once a year, Ulm University awards the ExzellenziaUlm Research Prize to outstanding early-career female scientists who, through their exceptional scientific work, help shape Ulm University as a centre of academic excellence and serve as significant role models for other female scientists and students. In this way, the University aims to raise the profile of successful female scientists and encourage early-career female scientists to embark on and pursue a scientific career. The prize is also intended to help counteract the drop-out rate among young female scientists and to increase the proportion of women in leadership positions through targeted support for early-career researchers and by making academic careers more attractive.  

Nominations

Any university member of Ulm University may nominate a young female scientist who does not yet hold a permanent professorship for the research prizes.

Prize money

The prize is worth 5,000 euros. The winner receives the prize money to support her scientific work.

Award

The Senate decides on the award of the prize on the basis of a recommendation from a selection panel. This panel comprises the Gender Equality Officer and the members of the Equality Commission. The selection criteria are the Young female scientist’s scientific excellence (demonstrated by: I. publications, securing external funding, appointments, patents, awards; II. a proven research profile of her own; III. international visibility) as well as the exemplary nature of her career development.

The prize may, in principle, be shared. It is presented by the President of Ulm University at a public ceremony.
