Conflict resolution and consultation
Pursuing a doctorate is a demanding and formative phase of professional and personal development: It combines academic independence with close collaboration, high expectations and various dependencies.
Wherever people work together, misunderstandings, differing expectations or conflicts can arise – for example, between doctoral researchers and supervisors, within research teams, or in connection with working conditions and responsibilities.
Conflicts are not a personal failure! It is often helpful to address concerns at an early stage, discuss them confidentially and jointly consider appropriate next steps. Ulm University aims to support early-career researchers in addressing challenges respectfully, constructively and with a focus on finding solutions.
ProTrainU sees itself as a reliable first point of contact. We listen to you, help you assess and understand the situation, and support you in finding the right way forward within the University. You are free to decide which form of support you would like to make use of:
If you find yourself in a difficult situation or are unsure which point of contact is right for you, you are welcome to contact the ProTrainU office. You do not have to resolve the situation on your own or have all the details worked out before reaching out. Your contact will be treated confidentially. Together, we can discuss what kind of support may be appropriate for your individual situation.
Talking to someone early on can help you keep your options open and prevent a difficult situation from escalating further.
By contrast, Ulm University is committed to excellent doctoral supervision and annually presents one Ulm University Doctoral Supervision Award per faculty.
