Post-Doc position in smart sensing for wearable digital health platforms

Ulm University

The Institute of Biomedical Engineering at the University of Ulm invites applications for a senior research position (m/f/d) starting as soon as possible; remuneration and benefits according to TV-L E13 regulations. One year appointment (80%-100%) with option for renewal.

Background

Medical wearables are essential tools for acquiring digital biomarkers. Requirements for medical wearables are stringent: Data reliability, safety and security need to be controlled and monitored. Within this project, we develop a novel low-power software for wearables and other embedded systems. Its architecture will inherently support smart sensing of digital biomarkers and embedded decision support with machine learning. It can be safely connected to other medical devices through a health middleware.  The solution will contribute to our efforts in building affordable devices for critical care monitoring in limited resource settings. For this, we partnered with other Universities in the Wellcome Trust funded VITAL project. In this project we will translate our findings to a wearable bioimpedance device to monitoring fluid shifts in patients with severe dengue fever.

Specific project aims are to develop an intelligent firmware that can extract digital biomarkers from sensor data, prioritize tasks, and provide basic clinical recommendation based on historical data. The project team will design,  test , and publish novel algorithms, software architec-tures and decision support models. The work will lead to a new generation of autonomous medical wearables.

Job description, duties and tasks
