Technical systems are increasing in complexity. Therefore it is equally getting more and more important that engineers acquire already during their studies a basis for handling such complex systems. Aim of the lecture is to introduce the most import views, methods, procedures and tools necessary for the use of systems engineering. In order to be absolutely able to use systems engineering in concrete tasks a long practice is necessary. Thus the lecture does not claim to replace this activity. The intention is to efficiently communicate systems engineering already in the frame of a university education. The existing technical knowledge shall not be deepened, instead handling of systems engineering shall be practiced by use of its methods.
The subject of this lecture implies that the practice in the conventional sense, i.e. calculation of exercises is definitely not very useful. The lecture is offered as a block course in connection with working in a project. During the first half of the semester only lectures are given, during the second half an exercise will be done. Each group gets the task to work on a development project.
The following topics are lectured:
Systems engineering-philosophy: basics of systems engineering, systems thinking, use of systems thinking.
Procedure models of systems engineering: Top Down, variations, phase structure, problem- solving cycle.
System circuit: situation analysis, objectives, synthesis analysis, evaluation and decision.
Project manager: project phases, project organizations, methods and tools.
