Donor-acceptor dyads for single material organic solar cells (SMOSC)

Ulm University

We recently published the continuation of a structural concept for organic semiconductors that can be used in SMOSCs. Functionalized S,N-heteropentacenes were used as donors that were covalently linked to fullerene acceptors by a flexible linker to form molecular donor-acceptor dyads. The systematic variation of structural motifs led to important structure-property-relationships and the implementation of the molecules into solution-processed SMOSCs. Efficiencies of up to 2.8% were achieved. The results were published online under the title „S,N-Heteropentacene-based molecular donor-acceptor dyads: structure-property relationships and application in single-material organic solar cells“ in the journal Organic Chemistry Frontiers (2023, DOI: 10.1039/D3QO00465A).
