The second edition of the International Conference on Auditing and Artificial Intelligence focussed on the question of how artificial intelligence (AI) is changing auditing. The event took place from 20 to 22 August 2025 at the Duisburg campus of the University of Duisburg-Essen.
Around 190 participants from all over the world attended, including experts from countries such as Japan, the USA and Germany. The conference brings together experts from science and practice to discuss current developments and challenges in the field of AI and auditing.
Among other things, the focus was on the practical use of AI in the auditing process, regulatory issues and the changing nature of the profession as a result of digitalisation. Auditing is considered an essential control process in which economic viability, data and reports are checked for accuracy and compliance. The integration of AI technologies brings new opportunities, but also poses important questions for the industry.
The conference was organised by the Mercator Audit & Artificial Intelligence Research Center (MAARC) at the University of Duisburg-Essen under the Head of Office of Prof. Dr Marc Eulerich. After a successful start last year, the participants met again on the Duisburg campus in the LX lecture theatre centre.
