Doctoral seminar in Duisburg

Ulm University

Inter-university exchange on current research projects in auditing

The traditional doctoral seminar before the start of the 2025/26 winter semester took place from 30 September to 1 October 2025. Hosted by the chair of Prof. Dr Marc Eulerich at the University of Duisburg-Essen, the seminar was also attended by the chairs of Prof. Dr Annette Köhler, Prof. Dr Kai-Uwe Marten, Prof. Dr Nicole Ratzinger-Sakel, Prof. Dr Klaus Ruhnke, Prof. Dr Nipper and Prof. PD. Dr Jochen Theis took part.

More than 20 PhD students took part in the two-day seminar, including six participants from Ulm University. The research projects presented covered a wide range of topics, including occupational fraud magnitude, AI-supported support for audit interviews and the use of non-financial data in analytical audit procedures.

Andreas Lorenzer and Tatjana Juppe from Ulm University presented their joint project on the design of the audit of sustainability reports.
This topic had already been discussed at the EARNet PhD workshop at the University of Vienna.

In addition to the lectures, co-presentations and discussion rounds, the joint dinner in a Duisburg pizzeria offered the opportunity for personal exchange and networking between the participants from different universities.

The seminar was very well received by the participants. We are already looking forward to the next doctoral seminar, which will take place next year at the University of Hamburg.
