Machine learning methods are essential for modern data science applications. Examples are the lasso, ridge regression, support vector machines, boosting, random forests and neural nets. The goal of the seminar is to examine selected methods and to give some insight into the statistical/mathematical theory that underlies them. We will in particular focus on deep learning methods. The course is offered as both a Bachelor and a Master seminar. Master students please note the following: The seminar is a good complement to the Master lecture "Statistical Learning". However, participation in the lecture is NOT a prerequisite for participation in the seminar.
