Bork Berghoff and his group are interested in gene regulation, RNA biology and stress resilience in bacteria. Research focusses on:  

• Bacterial dormancy and antibiotic tolerance
• Synthetic small RNAs as tools for gene regulation

 

Frank Bengelsdorf and his group are interested in the physiology and metabolism of strictly anaerobic bacteria. Research currently focusses on three main areas (for details click here): 

• Metabolic engineering of the acetogenic bacteria Acetobacterium woodii, Clostridium ljungdahlii, and Eubacterium callanderii
• Anaerobic synthetic co‑cultures and sequential C1-fermentation

• Bacteria from anaerobic environments
