Welcome to the Website of the Promovierendenkonvent (Proko) at Ulm University!

The Promovierendenkonvent (doctoral students representatives' board: Proko) has the goal to offer a central plattform for everybody who intends, performs or already has finished a PhD at Ulm University.

What is our mission?

We collect and represent the interests of doctoral students of Ulm University to the official organs that are responsible for steering the University. To this we are in regular exchange with PhD committees, faculty councils and the senate.

To make the voice of doctoral students heard, we draft statements and participate in the design of statutes and regulations relating to the pursuit of a doctorate.

You can find out more about your representatives here.

Represent

The Proko board offers individual doctoral students to share their concerns relating to their studies. These can include disputes with supervisors or critical clashes with university regulations.

If you seek advice or support, please write us an E-Mail.

Support

We promote interdisciplinary and cross-faculty networking among doctoral students and with other Promovierendenkonventen.

Our network extents up to state- and country-wide doctoral student organizations, such as the Bundesverband Promovierende.

Promote

We organize events and get-togethers for doctoral students, such as Christmas parties, game nights, information events, bar hoppings and beer pong tournaments.

The offers are typically advertised via the e-mail list doktoranden(at)uni-ulm.de (you may sign up yourself if you don’t already receive the messages) and are listed on our website. We hope to see you soon. :)

Kommission für Verantwortung in der Wissenschaft / Committee on Responsibility in the Conduct of Science:

Ulm University has instantiated a committee to monitor guidelines of good scientific practice and investigate allegations of scientific misconduct (e.g., fabrication of data, breach of work ethics etc.). Allegations of scientific misconduct are investigated in a two-stage procedure (preliminary action, formal investigation). The committee conducts a formal investigation if preliminary action reveals sufficient grounds for suspecting that scientific misconduct has taken place. The PhD student representative predominantly monitors cases that involve other PhD students.

The ProKo is looking for one PhD students to become part of the investigation committee. You should have a pronounced sense of justice and motivation to support PhD students that are affected by scientific misconduct. German language skills are important. The work load varies over the year but features a few irregular meetings (including interviews) and review of documents. More information on GSP and the committee can be found on the website: https://www.uni-ulm.de/en/research/service/principles-of-good-scientific-practice/
