Anna Neumeier
Anna Maria Neumeier (née Stanek) began her academic training in Poland, earning a Bachelor’s degree in Neuroscience from the Jagiellonian University in Cracow (2014–2017). Among other activities, she conducted research on neuroimmunological mechanisms in Alzheimer’s disease and multiple sclerosis - the focus of her bachelor’s thesis - completed a laboratory training program at the Polish Academy of Sciences in Warsaw, and played a leading role in organizing and marketing the 2017 NEURONUS Neuroscience Conference, one of Central Europe’s largest student-led scientific events.
Upon returning to Germany, Neumeier pursued a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology at the University of Ulm (2018–2022), where she wrote her thesis on psychoneuroendocrinological markers of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). She subsequently entered the Master’s program in Psychology at the same institution (2022–2025). Her master’s thesis investigated the effects of a mindfulness-based breathing intervention on affective states and flow experience during perturbed and unperturbed walking.
Throughout her studies, Neumeier gained extensive empirical and clinical experience. As a research student assistant at the Department of Clinical and Biological Psychology (University of Ulm), she contributed to several projects, including “HypnoTreat”, and “My Childhood – Your Childhood”, a longitudinal study on the influence of maternal childhood experiences on child development. During her STAR internship (Stress, Trauma and Resilience study), she worked with patients with dementia, gaining valuable experience in psychological assessment, patient interaction, and the practical application of diagnostic tools in clinical research. She further broadened her perspective through an internship at the psycho-oncological outpatient service of the University Hospital Ulm.
Since October 2023, Neumeier has been employed as a research assistant at the Department of Applied Emotion and Motivation Psychology at the University of Ulm, and since August 2025, she has additionally held a position at the Department of Clinical and Biological Psychology. In these roles, she contributes to study conceptualization, biomolecular and psychophysiological measurements, statistical analysis, coordination of research student assistants and teaching.
Neumeier’s research interests lie at the intersections of clinical psychology, neuroscience, medicine, and health sciences. She is particularly interested in psychotherapeutic communication techniques, (complex) post-traumatic disorder, neurodivergence in adulthood, and immunometabolic pathomechanisms in neurodegenerative/mental illness.
Her academic achievements have been recognized through multiple national scholarships and awards, including the Polish National Scholarship for Highly Gifted Students, the “Nie zgubić talentu” Scholarship, and several additional regional and national distinctions for academic excellence.
