Please note

The day before the conference starts (Monday 24/July/2023) is "Schwörmontag" (Oath Monday) a local holiday in Ulm which is the peak of the "Schwörwoche" - A whole week with several festivities in Ulm with highlights such as the Serenade of Lights, concerts on the square in front of the minster and of course "Nabada"! This is a kind of carnival on the Danube river taking place on Monday and there will be plenty of people out and about in the city.
So, if you participate in ySPPCC or arrive early - be prepared for some first hand experience of Swabian culture ;)

Travel

Closest airports are Stuttgart (STR), Munich (MUC) and Frankfurt am Main (FRA). Frankfurt probably offers the highest number of international flights but depending from where you travel, there might be direct connections to Stuttgart or Munich as well. There are some direct fast trains (ICE) between Frankfurt Airport and Ulm Central (Hauptbahnhof) but most connections to all mentioned airports have one changeover. Train connections are about 1.5h for Stuttgart or 2-3h for Munich and Frankfurt.

Several night trains, boarding from the Netherlands, Italy, Austria, Slovenia and Croatia stop in Munich and there is a TGV connection from Paris to Ulm. So if you travel from a European country, please consider using this low-emission alternative to air travel.

Find more information on night trains on https://www.night-trains.com/europe  and book tickets on https://www.bahn.com/en or https://www.thetrainline.com/ (also offers bus tickets).

If you travel from within Germany, the DB Veranstaltungsticket might be an option as this gives you a fixed price (from 51.90 €) independent of the length of the journey: https://tagen.ulm.de/tagen/de/service/DB_veranstaltungsticket.php

To get around in Ulm we recommend public transport - tram line 2 is the fastest and most convenient link from the city centre to the conference venue at Ulm University. The cheapest option when traveling daily is a weekly pass which you can buy at the ticket machines or on https://www.ding.eu/ (only available in German).

Accommodation

There is an allotment of hotel rooms reserved for participants of the ISPPCC which can be booked by filling out the reservation form and sending it to reservierung(at)tourismus.ulm.de
Rates are from 74€/night for single rooms and 96€/night for double rooms including breakfast. Please check the hotel location on a map before booking – we recommend to be in walking distance to a stop of the tram line as this is the fastest and most convenient way to reach the university. Feel free to also check for hotel or apartment rooms on common booking platforms. The youth hostel Ulm might be a low-cost alternative (a bit further out but connected by tram): https://www.jugendherberge.de/en/youth-hostels/ulm-117/portrait/
For groups https://www.monteurzimmer.de/en/accommodation/ulm/2820256/100/rotate/local might also be an option (check location and public transport connection!)
