Successful research is based on the availability of cutting-edge technologies and their effective use.

The “ULM Life Science & Medicine Technology Center” (ULMTeC) of the Medical Faculty offers access to central research infrastructures (“Core Facilities”) for research-supporting use.

Core Facilities are service facilities that offer their bundled expertise in state-of-the-art technologies and services. In addition to the specialized service, cost efficiency and resource conservation are decisive factors for the establishment of these structural units.

We support internal and external scientists in planning and implementing their research projects by providing access to advanced research infrastructure and offering expertise in the field of biomedical research.

For more information on equipment, services offered and project registration, please visit the individual pages of the Core Facilities. For general information please contact the Management Team.

News

2026 March: Congratulations to CF Cytometry and CF Light Microscopy, whose 91b applications have been approved, respectively for:

  • a spectral Image-Sorter

  • an Abberior STED superresolution microscopy module

CF Cytometry and CF Light Microscopy teams would like to thank all the groups that supported them during their application process. They are now looking forward to working on your projects and are glad to be upgrading their state-of-the-art facilities to reflect the latest technological advances.

CF Cytometry cheers the news!

2026 January: we started the new year by reflecting on what we've achieved together and looking forward to many exciting projects ahead in our CFs.

2025 July: new Sequencer NextSeq1000 now available in the CF Genomics!

The CF Genomics is now equipped with a NexSeq1000, which enables a significant reduction in sequencing costs and the performance of various standard evaluations directly on the device at no additional costs. A summary of the key innovations can be found here.

2025 May: we are happy to announce the start of our newest Core Facility!

The service of the CF Viruses range from production/purification/characterization of different viruses and viral vectors, virus/vector banking, to consulting, usage of S2 lab space/equipment, method training and more.

Read more about it on their CF website. The CF Viruses and ULMTeC are also highlighted in this LinkedIn post by BioPharma Cluster South Germany.

2026 March: New Guideline on User Surveys for Core Facilities

Understanding user needs and experiences is essential to improve services in Core Facilities, where user satisfaction is a key performance indicator. During last years' Ulmer Workshop, ULMTeC has initiated a collaboration with Tiller Alpha with the goal to establish guidelines for more effective user surveys.

Developed in collaboration with Core Facilities and technology platforms in Germany and Austria, the publication presents best practices for designing effective user surveys by covering key satisfaction dimensions and offering practical guidance on questionnaire design to support evidence-based service development in the research community.

The guideline is available for sharing under a Creative Commons license.

2025 February: the operating and usage regulations of our technology center have been published. They define the structure and governance of ULMTeC (part A), the operation (part B) and the usage (part C) of our ULMTeC core facilities.

The document can be found here.
