Semester opening for new bachelor students
Studying thrives on exchange, joint discovery and development. This is why the Faculty of Mathematics and Economics invited new Bachelor's students to a vibrant start to the semester on 16 October 2025.
The afternoon began with a group hike through the Botanical Garden and along a section of the Ulm heights trail, continuing through the campus and its neighbouring science parks. Lunch bags provided by the faculty ensured that everyone was happily refreshed. Gradually, the sun emerged from behind the clouds, providing the perfect opportunity to explore the campus and its surroundings and strike up conversations with fellow students, doctoral candidates and professors.
After the hike, everyone gathered in the library and the entrance area of the faculty building. Student representatives and initiatives provided information about their activities and invited participants to get involved. Researchers from the institutes presented their projects in poster sessions, and a professor of economics contributed to the atmosphere with guitar music.
For the new economics students, the afternoon had already begun with a short pre-programme, in which alumni and professors talked about their experiences since starting their studies and the paths they had been able to take thanks to their studies. The mathematics students joined in after a lecture.
In conclusion, it was a very successful afternoon that offered many opportunities to get to know fellow students and lecturers, and begin the semester with new contacts and fresh ideas.
