The Institute for Software Engineering and Programming Languages at Ulm University, Germany, has two open positions (PhD student or post-doc) in the field of software engineering, particularly, the development of domain-specific languages for embedded systems. Ulm University is a renowned research university and has been ranked in the TOP 15 of German universities by THE World University Ranking 2022. The institute conducts research at the highest international level in the field of software engineering.
The positions relate to two research projects. The first project deals with technical roadmapping in the automotive and semiconductor area, where we focus on building domain-specific languages and tools with a high degree of UX to specify, analyze and visualize future innovations. The focus of the second project is generating explanations for the behavior of self-adaptive systems, i.e., enabling the developer or the user to understand the reasons for the system’s adaption behavior. Both projects build on concepts, technologies and tools from the fields of language engineering, architectural description languages, compiler construction, and formal methods.
The successful candidate is highly motivated, energetic, and enthusiastic, and has documented strong expertise (high-level publications for a post-doc position or a master’s degree in computer science or related subjects with excellent grades from a renowned university for a PhD student position) in the areas relevant to the projects as well as software engineering and empirical research methods in general. We expect excellent scientific writing and oral communication skills as well as the ability to work independently in a bigger team within the institute as well as with external partners. German language skills are beneficial.
Both positions are 100% funded at the TV-L E13 level (starting with a gross salary around 50T€ per year with additional employee benefits). The positions are available immediately and applications will be considered until the positions are filled. For further information, please contact Prof. Dr. Matthias Tichy, matthias.tichy@uni-ulm.de, with a single PDF containing at least a short application letter specifically relating to the aforementioned research areas and the research activities of our institute in general, CV, degree certificate, transcript of records, publication list and/or copy of the thesis, and list of references.
