Would you like to actively shape international teaching at Ulm University?

The Global Teaching Labs support international teaching projects and help teaching staff develop, implement and showcase their ideas.

Funding is available for teaching projects that prepare students for a globally connected academic and professional world – for example through international partnerships or digital and hybrid exchange formats in the context of Internationalisation at Home.

The aim is to pilot, further develop and sustainably embed international teaching approaches in the curriculum.

The Global Teaching Labs funding programme runs in 2026, 2027 and 2028.

Programme Structure

Within the Global Teaching Labs, teaching staff develop and refine their concepts, exchange ideas and share their results. Throughout all stages of project development, implementation and evaluation, they receive support from experts in different fields as well as tailored advice and workshops.

Participants exchange ideas and provide peer feedback. Finally, the teaching formats and concepts developed within the projects are showcased and shared, enabling their transfer within Ulm University and beyond.

Scope of Funding

Funded teaching projects receive up to €20,000 per project. Funding may be used for project-related expenses, including:

  • Business travel for teaching staff
  • International exchange opportunities for students (e.g. conferences, summer schools, travel expenses for visiting lecturers)
  • Licences for subject-specific software
  • Translation and proofreading services
  • Personnel funding for fixed-term qualification positions is available to a very limited extent

Current Call for Proposals

The call for proposals for the Global Teaching Labs 2026 has closed.

The next call for applications for the 2027 funding year is expected 
to open at the end of 2026.

All teaching staff from all faculties and departments at Ulm University 
are eligible to apply.

Funded Global Teaching Labs make the following commitment:

Commitment

Funding is used for project-related expenses within the respective funding year and supports the implementation of the teaching projects.

Throughout the funding period, all Global Teaching Labs receive support from experts from the Centre for Teaching Development (ZLE), International Office (IO) and Evaluation and Quality Management (QBR), complemented by tailored advice and workshops.

The funded teaching projects are accompanied by monitoring of project progress and evaluation of teaching and learning quality and the achievement of project objectives. This includes, among other things, progress meetings, student feedback during the implementation phase, and surveys aimed at the overall further development of the Global Teaching Labs.

Participating teaching staff regularly exchange ideas on their concepts and project progress and provide peer feedback.

Funded teaching projects showcase their concepts and results and contribute to their wider transfer – for example by documenting best practices, sharing experiences and results at conferences or university exchange events, or publishing them in relevant journals.
