Global Teaching Labs 2026
In the first funding round of the Global Teaching Labs, eight international teaching projects from different departments at Ulm University are being funded.
Cognimize Classroom – Live Cognitive-Psychology Experiments in the Lecture Hall (CogClass)
CogClass turns every lecture into a cognitive science lab: students take part in classic experiments using their smartphones and compare their results with international partner courses.
More About the Project
Cognimize Classroom is a free, browser-based platform that lets teachers run 33 classic cognitive-psychology experiments live in class – students join via QR code, with no app and no account. Minutes after the start, the anonymous class result appears on the projector with confidence intervals and is discussed right on the class's own data.
What makes it special: international partner courses compare their class results directly through a COIL link – same task, two countries, one shared plot.

The Quantum Leiden Ulm Milan ETH Network (Q-Lumen)
Q-LUMEN implements a scalable model for research-based international teaching that connects students with leading quantum information research groups across Europe.
More About the Project
Q-LUMEN enables MSc and final-year BSc students to work on real research projects in quantum information as part of small international teams.
The projects are supervised remotely by researchers from partner universities, giving students direct insight into current research and international collaboration.
The programme combines online teamwork with an in-person meeting to provide a research-oriented learning experience while developing scientific, collaborative, and intercultural skills.

Recovery Across International Contexts: A Global Mental Health Teaching Lab (RAIC)
Three countries. One classroom. RAIC brings together future physicians, psychologists, and lived-experience experts to reimagine recovery across borders.
More About the Project
RAIC connects universities in Germany, the UK, and Egypt, embedding international perspectives on global mental health directly into existing medicine and clinical psychology programmes.
The idea is to bring students together with experts by experience from different countries to explore how recovery and lifestyle based interventions are understood in different contexts.
What makes RAIC special is its combination of peer-led international learning, a replicable and scalable training format that requires no student mobility, and its embeddedness in a broader European agenda for lifestyle psychiatry and recovery oriented care.
- Fostering attitude and sensitivity: openness, humility, and critical reflection among students
- Developing a transferable training format with tandem teaching and peer experts
- Co designing a practice oriented toolkit on context sensitive lifestyle interventions
- Building lasting international partnerships and laying the groundwork for a joint future projects

Global NeuroAction Lab (GNAL)
More About the Project
Global NeuroAction Lab is an internationalised teaching initiative in which students translate knowledge from clinical and cognitive neuropsychology into original creativity projects aimed at advancing neuroinclusion.
Building on this teaching format, the project is developing a research extension, the Global NeuroAction Study, to examine explicit and implicit attitudes, stigma, social distance, and readiness for neuroinclusive practices across cultural contexts, beginning with a German pilot study.
In the long term, the initiative aims to bring together teaching, international cooperation and cross-cultural research, and to develop into a transnational research and teaching network.
- Strengthen students’ understanding of neurodiversity and neuroinclusion through internationalised and research-informed neuropsychology teaching
- Engage students in developing original creativity projects that translate academic knowledge into socially relevant and inclusive ideas
- Examine explicit and implicit attitudes, stigma, social distance, and readiness for neuroinclusive practices through an initial German pilot study
- Develop a culturally meaningful, cross-national research and teaching network with partners in different countries
- Increase the visibility and practical relevance of the project through student presentations, research dissemination, and future dialogue with relevant stakeholders

ULMA Economic Olympiad (ULMA EO)
The ULMA Economic Olympiad brings together students from around the world for an international competition in microeconomics, macroeconomics, econometrics, and finance, combining academic competition with international exchange.

The ULMA Economic Olympiad (ULMA EO) is an international competition hosted by Ulm University for students of economics and related quantitative fields, combining talent development with international exchange.
Participants tackle problems in microeconomics, macroeconomics, econometrics, and finance while applying and deepening their knowledge in practice.
For international guests, the Olympiad is complemented by a scientific and cultural program featuring research seminars, project presentations, networking opportunities, and insights into studying and conducting research at Ulm University.

ULMA Economic Workshop (ULMA EW)
The ULMA Economic Workshop brings together Master's students from Ulm University and international partner universities in mixed research teams that, after an on-site workshop at their home university, jointly conduct AI-supported replication studies.

The ULMA Economic Workshop (ULMA-EW) adds an international component to the Master seminar "Applied Data Science: Replication & Extension": lecturers from Ulm University deliver three-day on-site workshops on econometrics, R and the use of AI agents in empirical research at selected partner universities.
International and Ulm students then replicate published empirical studies in mixed teams and present their results in a hybrid session in English. The format combines intercultural collaboration, research-based teaching and the critical use of AI agents as research tools.

The German-language Entrepreneurship lecture series is being developed in cooperation with THU into a fully English-taught course offering ECTS credits.
For the first time, this will provide an Entrepreneurship course specifically accessible to international students.
