Rendering Spoken Dialogue Systems adaptive to the user is supposed to result in more natural and ecient dialogues. In this work, the creation and evaluation of an adaptive dialogue strategy using a more objective form of user satisfaction as adaptation criterion is presented. The intention of applying an adaptive strategy in a Spoken Dialogue System is to improve the course of the dialogue and to handle problematic situations in the human-machine interaction. The user-adaptive dialogue strategy is evaluated against non-adaptive strategies to show that by adapting the dialogue to the user results in a better performance of the dialogue system. The performance of all strategies is evaluated, regarding dialogue completion, task success and average dialogue length. Furthermore, it is observed if the quality of a dialogue is also improved using an user-adaptive dialogue strategy.
