Teaching Award 2025 for innovative teaching concepts in "Methods of Management Information Systems"

Ulm University

Great joy at the Institute of Business Analytics: Our PostDocs Maximilian Förster and Andreas Obermeier have been honoured with the Ulm University 2025 Teaching Award. The award recognises teaching projects that are particularly innovative, have a strong impact and serve as role models.

Their newly developed course "Methoden der Wirtschaftsinformatik", which is one of the central components of the master's programme "Wirtschaftsinformatik - Digital Business and Analytics", received the award. The course impressively demonstrates how modern, future-orientated teaching can be designed today.

Instead of traditional lecture formats, the teaching concept focuses on activating and practical learning methods:

  • Interactive, workshop-based block seminars

  • Flipped classroom discussions of scientific articles to promote critical thinking

  • Development of own research concepts in student teams

  • Pitch sessions with expert feedback

  • AI-supported learning methods and digital knowledge networks

In this way, students not only acquire methodological knowledge, but also actively apply it: they develop research approaches, defend their ideas, critically evaluate concepts and take on the role of young scientists. In conjunction with AI competences, future skills and innovative examination formats, the course sets a reinforced benchmark for sustainable teaching in the age of (generative) AI.
