Praxisprojekt I

Overview and learning objectives

In “Praxisprojekt I”, students work independently in teams on research and practice-oriented projects in the field of Management Information Systems, with a focus on business analytics. The projects have a reinforced practical focus and are based on current research questions from the Institute of Business Analytics (IBA) and the Institute of Databases and Information Systems (DBIS). Students apply the skills they have previously learnt, develop new tools if necessary and finally prepare a written report and a presentation.

On completion, they are able to solve practical problems, interpret results and derive recommendations. They acquire skills in teamwork, project management and dealing with stress, which they can transfer to future projects.

Course information

As part of this module, students work independently in teams on research and application-oriented projects on various topics in business informatics with a focus on business analytics. Some of the projects are offered in cooperation with industry partners.

Students who have successfully completed this module...

  • are able to apply business informatics methods to solve practical problems, interpret and present the results, and derive recommendations for action.
  • can apply the problem-solving skills acquired during the project work to new issues
  • have experience in teamwork and group dynamics, are aware of social problems that may arise, and know how to deal with them
  • are able to efficiently organize and purposefully lead work in interdisciplinary teams
  • are able to cope with stress and deadline pressure
  • have basic knowledge of project management and can apply this to future projects

The practical projects offered in this module are at the interface of business informatics and have a strong connection to practical issues and current research projects at the Institute for Business Analytics (IBA) and the Institute for Databases and Information Systems (DBIS). In addition, the projects can be assigned to the subject area of business analytics.

Students are expected to apply the skills they have learned in previous courses to real-world projects. The practical projects are carried out independently in teams. This may require students to familiarize themselves with tools (e.g., Outsystems) on their own. At the end of the course, the results of the practical projects are to be presented and discussed in a written project report.

Depending on the subject area, individual literature is recommended.
