Announcing of the intention to pursue a habilitation

Please send the Dean an (informal) e-mail including the required information and documents according to point 2 of the guidelines.

Introductory lecture

After announcing your intention to pursue a habilitation, the Dean will contact you to schedule an appropriate date for the lecture.

Interim evaluation

See guidelines. Please submit the required documents to the office of the Habilitation Committee.

Application to open the habilitation examination procedure 

Please consider the statutes, the guidelines and the application form on the webpage of the Habilitation Committee on handing in your application. 

Procedure after the application

• The Faculty Council appoints the additional members to the Habilitation Committee for your procedure.
• The Habilitation Committee is given access to the documents and then decides on admission to the procedure, the appointment of examiners and other initial steps.
• A ‘course-related lecture’ only needs to be held upon request.
• After all evaluations have been submitted, the Habilitation Committee discusses the acceptance of the written habilitation thesis and further topics.
• You will then be informed of the decisions, including the topic, date and time of the academic lecture. You will also have the opportunity to see the evaluations.
• ‘Academic lecture’ (see also guidelines point 5.)
• In general, the Habilitation Committee decides on the acceptance of the academic lecture directly afterwards.
• You will be informed of the result in person. The certificate will be handed out after it has been completed.

Duration of the procedure

The duration of the procedure basically depends on when the next Faculty Council meeting takes place after the submission of the application, how long it takes to prepare the evaluations and whether appointments are delayed due the lecture-free period.
