Opening of our computer networking lab

Ulm University

Today, the new computer networking lab at the University of Ulm has been introduced. After more than a half year of renovation and reconstruction, Prof. Hauck, Prof. Kargl, Prof. Slomka, and Prof. Wesner as well as their staffs are delighted by the new possiblities of the lab for both research and teaching.

The lab provides the reconstruction and analysis of complex networking scenarios for LAN and Internet-wide settings with up to 10 GBit/s of traffic. A further extension for up to 100 GBit/s is possible. Furthermore, there is also an uplink to the BelWue testing netowrk as part of the bwNET-100G+ project, which connects the lab to other network sites, i.e. Karlsruhe, Tübungen, and Stuttgart. Students can take advantage of the networking lab by taking part in related lectures, projects and theses. Thus, students can learn the typical task of ISPs–ranging from physical setups up to layer-2 switching and complex routing, and application protocols and services–by working with our "small-scale Internet " lab setup.
