More about the course

The (study/degree) programme comprises both German and English-taught modules from the fields of biocatalysis, technical microbiology, enzyme technology, metabolic engineering, process optimisation and quality assurance. The curriculum includes project work in which scientific work is learnt and additional transferable skills such as structured work planning, communication and teamwork skills and personal responsibility can be acquired.

Study content in a nutshell

The degree programme is highly research-, development- and process-oriented and interdisciplinary. The main focus is on biocatalysis, process and metabolic engineering as well as modelling and simulation.

Study objective

The Industrial Biotechnology study/degree programme offers sound, future-oriented training; (akad: ) education that optimally prepares students for a career in industry and research. Our graduates develop specialised knowledge and practical skills, supplemented by transferable skills such as teamwork, project management and presentation techniques. In addition, our graduates learn to act in a scientific and responsible manner - both in their appointments and in society. An ideal foundation for an innovative and sustainable future.

Special features of the (study/degree) programme

The cooperative study/degree programme combines the reinforcements of both higher education institutions and creates optimal conditions for success. Two semesters at Biberach University of Applied Sciences offer practical study content, while the semester at Ulm University focuses on scientific topics. This combination facilitates entry into industry and at the same time opens up paths for a scientific career. The master's thesis, carried out in a company or at one of the two higher education institutions, provides targeted preparation for the transition from studying to working life.

The study/degree programme is administered by Biberach University of Applied Sciences.

Study abroad

A great way to broaden your horizons in a discipline is to study at a foreign university. Ulm University students can apply for one or two semesters abroad at numerous universities, both throughout Europe as part of the ERASMUS programme and outside Europe. If lectures are not required, internships and theses at other universities are also possible.
