Welcome to the Institute of Chemical Engineering
The Institute of Chemical Engineering under the direction of Professor Robert Güttel has supplemented the teaching and research profile of the University of Ulm since April 2015. The field of chemical engineering, closely related to process engineering, provides important competencies for mastering the challenges of energy and raw material change. One task of chemical engineering is the implementation of fundamentally new chemical findings on a technical scale, as can be seen in the example of the Haber-Bosch process.
More generally, chemical engineering (process engineering) deals with the conversion of substances and their properties and can therefore be regarded as material conversion technology. It represents an interdisciplinary field with elements of chemistry and mechanical engineering.
[September 2018] Two teams of our master students successfully took part in the ChemCar and ChemPlant competition at the ProcessNet-Jahrestagung in Aachen. The ChemPlant team was among the eight out of more than twenty teams that was invited to present their very interesting concept at the conference. Our ChemCar team even won the competition. Our congratulations for this success!
[August 2018] Our first common paper 'Process Intensification – An Unbroken Trend in Chemical Engineering' has been published by Chemie Ingenieur Technik, recently. Therein we illustrate the synergies between the research topics in the Institute of Chemical Engineering in order to tackle the future challenges associated with the energy and raw material transition.
