Doctoral scholarships under the Postgraduate Scholarships Act of the Land of Baden-Wuerttemberg (LGFG)

Doctoral scholarships under the Postgraduate Scholarships Act of the Land of Baden-Wuerttemberg (LGFG) are granted to highly qualified Phd students. The scholarship sum corresponds to similar amounts granted by the German Research Foundation (DFG) and may be supplemented with achild allowance. Funding will be provided for up to three years.

Applications will only be considered if the supervisor of the PhD thesis works in the respective area. These scholarships are exclusively for PhD theses which are done at Ulm University.

Scholarships are granted upon a public call initially for a period of one year. For  a prolongation please submit a request latest 4 weeks before the end of the funding period. The request shall include an application form for renewal of the scholarship, a short (1 page) report on the progress of your work and a written opinion by your supervisor.

Call for Proposal 2019: Doctoral scholarships under the Postgraduate Scholarships Act of the Land of Baden-Württemberg (LGFG)

The University of Ulm offers four doctoral scholarships under the Postgraduate Scholarships Act of the Land of Baden-Wuerttemberg (LGFG) to highly qualified junior staff members starting on the 1st of November 2019.

You may apply for a scholarship provided that:

  • you have a university degree
  • you started your PhD studies after the 1st of March 2019
  • you are highly qualified
  • you have a project with a significant contribution to research
  • you are a PhD student of your faculty (we need written proof until the beginn of the scholarship

Important:

 Ulm University may not grant a scholarship to itst own employees. Accepting the scholarship means you may not have a concurrent gainful employment at Ulm University.

The following documents also need to be submitted:

  • a work schedule comprising a timeframe
  • referee’s statement by academic supervisor (1st referee)
  • referee’s statement by another professor (2nd referee)
  • copies of university examination certificates (University may request copies to be certified)
  • confirmation by the Faculty of acceptance as a doctoral candidate and my being academically super vised by a university lecturer
  • a curriculum vitae providing information on, in particular, previous studies, special achievements and experiences

Detailed application and evaluation criteria are stated in the Satzung der Universität Ulm zur Durchführung des Landesgraduiertenförderungsgesetzes (LGFG) und zur Vergabe weiterer Promotionsstipendien.

The initial duration of the scholarship is one year. It can be prolonged twice for a period of one more year each. So the overall funding period is up to three years.
