Enhancement of Angular Resolution for automotive Radars using Compressed Sensing Approaches

In modern vehicles a radar sensor is more and more important. A key parameter is the separability of close targets. To not only rely on the separation gained by the range and Doppler, the angular information can be used in addition. As the angular resolution is directly linked to the antenna aperture, a large aperture is wanted. In the classic case this means a large number of receiving elements which dramatically increases the hardware effort. Hence, sparse antenna arrays gained attraction.

In this thesis the classic full equipped antenna aperture is to be compared to a sparse array. For evaluation the techniques of compressed sensing should be applied. Compressed sensing is a quite new approach, for which a smart choice of sampling is selected.

First, the theoretical basics will be investigated which will be simulated using Matlab. After that an ideal antenna pattern should be determined, fabricated, and measured.
