P4: Systematic Modeling of Utility, Costs and Quality of Service Robotic Skills

Project Description:

Service robots depend on a huge variety of skills in order to robustly fulfill different tasks in real-world environments. Meanwhile, a huge body of algorithms and approaches exist (e.g. navigation, object recognition, etc.) all with different properties (e.g. in terms of accuracy, resource requirements etc.). Project P4 aims at modeling utility, costs and quality of robot capabilities. At run-time, a robot shall adequately select from available capabilities to achieve its task (that is with the minimum required quality and with adequate resources). For example, asking a person whether a corridor is crowded can cause less costs than driving there and sensing but can be less reliable than asking another robot.
