Get your studies off to a successful start with the university's support services: StudienLernWerstatt
Support services offered by the Department of Biology
We offer our students the following non-compulsory tutorials to ensure a successful start to their studies and a successful continuation of their studies with the essential basic knowledge:
Tutorial “Mathematics for Natural Sciences I” for the degree programs BSc Biochemistry, BSc Biology & BSc Teaching Biology: In the tutorials for “Mathematics for Natural Sciences I”, the solutions to the weekly exercises are discussed in small groups. The tutors (experienced students from higher semesters) accompany and support the discussion so that everyone has a correct solution at the end.
Tutorial “General Chemistry” for the degree programs BSc Biochemistry, BSc Biology & BSc Teaching Biology: The voluntary tutorial “General Chemistry” accompanies the lecture and seminar on “General Chemistry” with additional exercises and impulses. The aim is to create a learning environment in which the tutors adapt the teaching of the subject matter to the individual requirements and needs of the students.
Information on the tutorials can be found in the associated courses and the corresponding Moodle courses.
Communication & Platforms
In order to receive all information relevant to your studies, you should subscribe to the relevant mailing lists (the lists always consist of the degree program and the year in which you started studying, e.g.: if you start in the first semester of biochemistry in winter semester 23/24, please subscribe to the list biochemie2324@lists.uni-ulm.de). You can do this on the following page:
If you are taking courses outside of the regular curriculum, please also sign up for other mailing lists so that you do not miss any information relevant to you. If, for example, you have to repeat courses from the 1st semester, even though you are already in the 3rd semester, please subscribe to the mailing list for the following year.
In addition to the mailing lists for the years of the respective subjects in the Department of Biology, there are also other mailing lists of the student representatives (e.g. student councils) that may be of interest to you. You can browse through all available lists on the linked page. Subscribe to mailing lists to follow the communication taking place on them or write an email to a mailing list to communicate with the readers.

The portal for studies and teaching allows you to use a variety of self-service functions relating to the administration of studies and teaching:
There you will find the course directory, module descriptions and handbooks, examination regulations and study plans, where you have to register for examinations and, if necessary, deregister, where you can edit your personal data and view study certificates and your transcript of records.
Course registration in the Biosciences does not (!) take place via the CoronaNG course registration system; here you can only take Additive Key Qualifications (ASQs) and additional courses. Most of the course organization takes place on the Moodle learning platform - so it is a prerequisite for your studies that you know how to use Moodle. You can find a helpful overview here.
Exam registration takes place via the portal for studying & teaching!
Moodle provides a central learning platform for lecturers and students. Moodle is used to accompany face-to-face courses and expand them with online modules. Moodle can also be used for purely online teaching and as a workgroup system for research and working groups, for example.
