My thesis is around the question of how the problem of sensor fusion becomes a problem of explanation in the context of streaming smart interconnected environments. Specifically, the mechanisms to enact a type of reasoning that will assist the continuous inference of sensor modalities, or facts, that maybe not capable of direct observation or due to failures find alternatives with the given operating resources.  The basic storyline behind the thesis is the developement of logic-based non-monotonic reasoning framework for semantic sensor fusion, that includes topics from Knowledge Representation & Reasoning, Stream Reasoning, Probabilistic Graphical Models and temporal formalisms for event recognition.  The inherent uncertainty and incompleteness of such environments is also tackled in this thesis.
