Job description
Training in higher library services takes place as internal administrative training, in the so-called ‘library traineeship’, and serves as preparation for a career as a research librarian.
An overview of where the library traineeship or internship can be completed nationwide is available by email.
The subject specialist is responsible for all user information needs at the interface between science and administration. In addition to media acquisition and cataloguing, the core tasks include the further development of digital services as well as training and teaching activities (imparting information and media literacy).
Broad specialist knowledge and a good general education are essential, as is a willingness to assist with departments outside your own field.
Requirements
- University degree, preferably with a doctorate
- Good verbal and written communication skills
- Good foreign language skills

Those who are German citizens within the meaning of Article 116 of the German Basic Law or who are citizens of another EU member state, who are under 32 years of age or, as severely disabled persons, under 40 years of age, and who have the necessary physical fitness as certified by a medical certificate from a public health officer, are eligible for employment in the so-called preparatory service.
Remuneration
Applicants admitted to the preparatory service are employed as civil servants on a revocable basis and receive trainee remuneration in accordance with the Federal Remuneration Act.

Academic librarians are information specialists who work as subject specialists and/or heads of organisational units with management responsibilities.
