Victory for Einstein Motorsport team

Ulm University

With an outstanding result, the Einstein Motorsport Team of Ulm University of Applied Sciences returned from the Formula Student France with an outstanding result. The team of students from Ulm and Neu-Ulm impressed in manual and autonomous driving at the international student design competition in France. The event took place for the third time on the test track of car manufacturer Renault, which has also been used for autonomous driving tests since 2004 - it was the premiere for the Einstein Motorsport team.

Together with German and French teams, the team competed in various disciplines and achieved impressive successes:

  • Overall victory in the manual driving category
  • 2nd place in the autonomous overall ranking
  • A total of 13 out of 14 possible trophies in the individual rankings

The competition disciplines included both manual driving with a driver and autonomous driving without a driver. The programme included speed, endurance and challenging routes with slalom and bend passages.

"The service performances of our Einstein Motorsport team are a great testament to the high level of commitment and creativity of our students. They show how practical learning is practised at THU and how team spirit, knowledge and innovation can lead to top performance. We would like to congratulate the entire team on this extraordinary success," says Prof Dr Volker Reuter, Rector of Ulm University of Applied Sciences.

"We are incredibly proud of these successes - especially because this was our first time at this event," explains Jonathan Sackmann, CEO of Einstein Motorsport. "Our results show how well we work together as a team and that we can rely on each other in all areas."

In addition to the sporting successes, Jonathan Sackmann also emphasises the special team spirit: "Whether mechanics in the workshop or members from disciplines such as business planning and reports - everyone pitched in where support was needed. In the evening, we celebrated what we had achieved together at the camp."

The Einstein Motorsport racing team brings together over 60 motivated students from Ulm University of Applied Sciences, Neu-Ulm University of Applied Sciences and Ulm University. In addition to their studies, they plan, design and build a racing car for Formula Student entirely on their own. Formula Student is an international design competition for students that has been organised annually since 2006. This competition is not only about the fastest racing car, but also about the design, business plan and marketing. The Einstein Motorsport Team at THU has been involved from the very beginning. A milestone in the team's history: After two years of development, the first fully electric racing car with a self-developed autonomous system was launched at Hockenheimring in 2021.
