School of Humanities
We bring together a range of perspectives from academia and education – particularly from Philosophy, linguistics and literary studies, geragogy and research-based learning.
Many of our programmes are aimed not only at students but also at interested members of the public outside the University. Let us actively shape the dialogue between science and society. We warmly invite you to join us.

The three departments of the department
Programmes offered by the Department
In addition to the courses offered by the various departments, the Department offers the following programmes:
Ulmer 3-Generationen-Uni
We combine research and teaching with dialogue with society – and reflect on the role of science at the intersection of technological development and social responsibility.
Prof. Dr Rebekka Hufendiek
, Head of the Department
Research carried out by the department
Our research focuses on the intersections between science and society, on issues relating to the philosophy of science – particularly in the fields of the philosophy of Biology and the philosophy of Psychology – on applied ethics, social and political philosophy, and on the communication of knowledge. In addition, we explore topics from Philosophy, linguistics and literary studies, geragogy and research-based learning.
Study and teaching in the Department
The range of courses and teaching offered by the School of Humanities responds to changes in the world of work and society, and equips students with the skills to tackle new challenges.
Transfer/Public Engagement within the Department
We see transfer as a bridge between research, business, politics and civil society. As part of Ulm University’s Third Mission, we bring together scientific teaching, research and social engagement – within a conception of science that is open, dialogue-based and relevant to real life.
