Interdisciplinary Language and Literature Studies

Research at the Centre for Language and Additional Skills focuses on topics at the intersection of language, communication, education and social change. Various projects examine developments and challenges in the modern world of work and life from an interdisciplinary perspective.

The research area of interdisciplinary language and literary studies examines language and literature within their diverse cultural, historical and social contexts and interdisciplinary relationships.

Ulm Language Studies

Language and Literature Studies focus on the analysis of linguistic structures, literary texts, media and social discourses, as well as their interactions with other fields of knowledge such as Cultural studies, Philosophy, history, media studies and the social sciences. By combining different theoretical approaches and methodological strategies, this research area contributes to a deeper understanding of communication processes and the interrelationships between various academic disciplines and fields of knowledge.

The language studies programme at Ulm offers an exemplary insight into this field of research; at the same time, the habilitation thesis by Roman Yaremko, Head of Office at ZSZ (Central State Scientific Research Institute) ‘Border Crossings between Philosophy and Literature: Philosophical–Literary Reflections on the Concept of Human Dignity as a Way of Life in the Work of Peter Bieri, alias Pascal Mercier’ is directly linked to this branch of comparative research.
