Study and teaching in the School of Humanities

The range of courses and teaching offered by the School of Humanities responds to changes in the world of work and society, and equips students with the skills needed to tackle new challenges.

Our focus

We place particular emphasis on developing foreign language skills, communication and cooperation, the ability to contextualise, legally accountable and sustainable behaviour, the ability to exercise judgement and make decisions, self-organisation and personal responsibility.

Content and key themes of our events

By engaging with different perspectives, we foster openness, critical thinking and the ability to engage in dialogue. This creates the conditions for successful communication, responsible action and mutual understanding in a diverse and increasingly complex world.

Our range of courses covers scientific fundamentals as well as linguistic, communicative and personal skills. In this way, we create opportunities for interdisciplinary learning and prepare students to successfully tackle complex challenges in academia, the workplace and society.

Examination matters and options for recognising credits

Almost all seminars offered by the department can be credited as an ASQ (3 ECTS for 2 SWS) and count as an elective for students in Medicine.

The lecturer in charge will determine which examination achievements are to be completed, when and in what form, and will inform you of this during the first seminar session. For some of the possible examination achievements, the Humboldt Centre has provided directives and preparatory materials, which you can find via the links here.

In the minor/applied subject of Philosophy, only seminars from the ‘Philosophy and Society’ area may be credited.
