Structure
Here you can find an overview of the department’s organisation, management structure and statute.
Since 2012, the School of Humanities has brought together Ulm University’s humanities-related activities in the fields of research, teaching, continuing education and knowledge transfer. It combines perspectives from philosophy, linguistics, cultural studies and Educational sciences with interdisciplinary approaches, thereby making a significant contribution to the University’s scientific and social profile.
In terms of teaching, the Department offers degree programmes in the fields of languages and Philosophy, as well as additive transferable skills (ASQ), the Personal Competence module (MPK), a profession-oriented specialisation in Educational sciences focusing on ethics, research-based learning and continuing academic education.
In research, the Department focuses on the philosophy of science and digital ethics. At the same time, it covers a broad spectrum of topics in the humanities and educational sciences – ranging from linguistics and Cultural studies, through educational research and geragogy, to research-based learning and citizen science. In the area of knowledge transfer, the Department organises a variety of formats for exchange between science and society – ranging from the Academy Weeks and the Ulm 3-Generations University (u3gu) to the Ulm Thought-Provoking Discussions.
The Department is divided into three departments, which work closely together in research, teaching and knowledge transfer. Through the Musischen Zentrum, the Department also promotes artistic life at the University. The programme comprises activities in the fields of music, visual arts, performing arts, dance and literature, and enriches cultural life on campus.
