Abstract:
In his talk, Matthias Laschke will talk about his research and design in Human–Computer Interaction (HCI) from three different perspectives: the experiential, the motivational, and the post-anthropocentric perspective. He will especially focus on the motivational perspective, and how he developed the concept of the “Pleasurable Troublemaker.” Through several design and research examples, Matthias will illustrate how design research offers a great opportunity to conduct research in meaningful and reflective ways. Furthermore, he will show how theories from sociology, psychology, and philosophy of technology offer great inspiration and guidance for both design and research.
In the end, Matthias will also shed light on a new and emerging topic in HCI, the post-anthropocentric perspective, which aims to move beyond human-centrism and explore more relational, ecological, and reflective forms of interaction.
About:
Jun.- Prof. Dr. phil. Matthias Laschke is head of the Chair for Interaction Design for Transformation and Sustainability at the University of Siegen. Matthias is a design researcher whose work is situated between practical design, empirical research and artistic exploration. His team's and his own research focuses on behavior change in HCI, with an overall emphasis on sustainability and transformation. Other foci of current and past research are various topics in human-computer interaction (HCI), such as experience design, affective computing, and interaction with agentive technologies (i.e., Otherware), both in the form of digital and tangible artifacts.
