Profiles in the Master degree programs
The following chemical profiles are available in the Master's degree programs in Chemistry and Business Chemistry:
- Chemistry of Energy Storage and Conversion
- Sustainable, Green and Environmental Chemistry
- Chemistry of Molecular Materials Light Matter Interaction
- Chemistry of Healthcare and Biomaterials
The following business sciences profiles are also available in the Master's program in Chemistry and Management:
- Business Analytics
- Corporate management and controlling
- Economics
- Accounting and auditing
A profile is considered to have been successfully acquired when modules amounting to at least 18 credit points that are assigned to the respective profile have been successfully completed. The following overview tables list modules assigned to the profiles. Both the chemistry and economics profiles are exclusively master modules.
Assignment of modules to the chemical profiles (please use the link on German version of this website)
Allocation of modules to the economics profiles (as of: like shown in the pdf file)
In the elective area B1 in the Master's in Business Chemistry (elective modules in Economics), only Master's modules can be used to acquire profiles. Please be sure to select the information that applies to the master's degree in the above list (the list comes from the Study Commission Business Sciences and regulates both the bachelor's and the master's degree there). If bachelor's modules are taken in the Master's in Chemistry and Management, these do not count towards the acquisition of the profile (precisely because it is a Master's). In the module descriptions, you can use the “Classification in the degree programs” field to determine whether it is a bachelor’s module or a master’s module. It is also often an indication whether the module brings 6 or 7 credit points. Many bachelor's modules have 6 credit points, many master's modules have 7. However, this is not clearly and not always the case!
Important: The assignment of modules to profiles should not be confused with the assignment of modules to the individual elective areas (accounts). The FSPO specifies specific requirements regarding the choice of modules in the individual accounts. These are crucial for closing the accounts and ultimately for completing your studies and must be fulfilled. Profiles, on the other hand, are optional. It is also possible to complete the course without purchasing profiles. In the module handbook, the assignment of modules to the compulsory elective areas can be seen directly from the table of contents. The assignment to profiles is listed in the individual module description in the field "Allocation of study programs" (module descriptions are currently being updated, this process will take some time until all information is available in full; as of October 23, 2023). It is easier to use the aforementioned overall overview to identify module assignments.
Master Chemistry: Depending on the module choice in area B1, the full flexibility in area B2 can be used to complete 1-2 profiles.
Master in Chemistry and Management: A chemical profile can be acquired by choosing suitable modules in area B3 due to the full flexibility available there. The minimum score of 18 CP in this area corresponds exactly to the required score for a profile. 1-2 profiles can be acquired in economics. In order to acquire one profile, at least 18 LP from master modules in one of the selectable profiles must be acquired. In this case, the additional credits up to the minimum score in the B1 area can also be achieved from Bachelor modules. If two profiles are to be acquired, this is only possible if not only the minimum score of 28 LP is achieved, but also if 36 LP are achieved instead. This is generally possible without any additional effort, because in the entire compulsory elective area B, 8 credit points more must be achieved than the individual sub-areas combined require in terms of their respective minimum points. These 8 LP correspond exactly to the difference between 28 and 36 LP in area B1. In this case, all credits from master modules must also be completed.
In addition to the transcript, a separate notification will be issued. This documentation is NOT automatic!
To apply for graduation (certificate including profile certificates) at the Student Affairs Office, a web-based tool designed specifically for this purpose can be used (see following section). In this tool, the desired profiles can be selected; the final step in the process is to submit a binding application for these together with the certificate, which also constitutes a declaration of intent to formally complete the program.
The final step of the process and the submission of the web form should therefore only be carried out if you actually intend to terminate your studies!
However, it is possible to go through the form “just for fun,” for example, to check which profiles you are eligible for. This process can then be canceled at any time before the final step without any concerns.
