Information for undergraduate students in Econo-Mathematics

The course specialization in actuarial science can take place within the compulsory elective modules without any problems. Students who can imagine this course specialization for their graduate studies, or who can imagine a future career where actuarial knowledge (or passed actuarial exams) is an advantage, should attend the lectures “Insurance Economics” and “Personenversicherungsmathematik”. Every semester there is also the possibility to take part in a seminar focused on (mathematical or economic) actuarial aspects which is especially addressed to undergraduate students.

Furthermore, students who have set their focus on this area have the possibility to write their bachelor thesis in actuarial science. There is a variety of topics: mathematical problems, topics with focus on computer science as well as economic questions. Our current topics can be found here.

Additionally, you can take part in lectures which won’t be included in the calculation of your overall mark, but are examined as extra modules and will be included in your transcript. If those lectures are graduate modules you can take them into account when you start your graduate studies at the University of Ulm. See below for an exemplary course schedule for a specialization in actuarial science. You should pay attention to the fact that 120 ECTS points in mathematical courses (including seminars, bachelor thesis and “WiMa-Praktikum”) are required for a relief of the mathematical DAV (German association of actuaries) admission test.
