Prof. Dr. Steffen Zimmermann
Steffen Zimmermann is professor of business administration with a focus on digital business and Director of the Institute of Business Analytics at Ulm University. In research and teaching he focuses on the (economic) analysis and design of data-driven business models, digital transformation programmes, customer review systems and digital education.
Steffen Zimmermann studied business administration at the University of Augsburg until 2004, specialising in information systems, financial engineering and economics of the information society. After his studies, he worked as a research assistant at the Chair of Information Systems, Information and Financial Management and received his doctorate in 2008 on the topic of value-oriented IT portfolio management. At the same time, he was managing director of the FIM Finanz- & Informationsmanagement GmbH and carried out several practical projects as an independent management consultant. From March 2009, he was employed at the Department of Information Systems, Production and Logistics Management at the Leopold-Franzens University of Innsbruck. In March 2014, he completed his habilitation and from May 2017 he was a university professor and head of the Department of Business Informatics III for Digital Enterprises and Digital Markets. From October 2019, Steffen Zimmermann also headed the Department of Information Systems, Production and Logistics Management at the University of Innsbruck. On several occasions since August 2011, he was a visiting rofessor at the Department of Management Information Systems at the University of Calgary, where he works together with Barrie Nault on several research projects in the areas of data-driven business models and customer review systems.
Steffen Zimmermann is the author of several articles in top international journals, such as Information Systems Research, Journal of Strategic Information Systems and Journal of the AIS. He also regularly presents his research results at the most important international conferences in the field of digital business, such as the International Conference on Information Systems (ICIS), the Conference on Information Systems and Technology (CIST) and the European Conference on Information Systems (ECIS).
