Application-oriented solutions and explainability of AI

Explainable Artificial Intelligence

A recent study by McKinsey estimates the economic potential of AI to be about 3 billion. AI can become a game changer due to almost unlimited application possibilities in business and social contexts. On the other hand, a lack of transparency and traceability often lead to AI not being used. In fact, according to a recent study by the Bertelsmann Foundation, more than three quarters of respondents in Germany reject fully-automated decisions. It is therefore essential, especially for companies that use intelligent systems, to increase their acceptance among their customers and consumers. The research area Explainable Artificial Intelligence (XAI) thus conducts research in particular on the comprehensibility of AI decisions from the user's perspective, with a main focus on the following topics:

  • methods for the comprehensibility of AI decisions
  • user-centred design of (X)AI applications
