Mathematical study programmes

We are one of the largest educational institutions in Germany in the fields of Mathematics, Mathematics and Management, Computational Science and Engineering, and Mathematical Biometry. One of our success modelsis our interdisciplinary bachelor's/ master's degree programme in Mathematics and Management, which is very popular with both students and employers as it integrates the most important components of mathematics, economics and computer science. The career prospects as well as the reputation of our Mathematics and Management graduates have been excellent for many years.

In the master's program in Finance, which is taught in English and started in 2003, students can benefit from the faculty's expertise in the field of financial services.  The program is open to students with diverse backgrounds (mathematics, economics, computer science, and others) and offers a specialization in actuarial science, financial economics, or financial mathematics.

In addition to the classical education in the bachelor's/ master's degree programme in Mathematics as well as the teaching degree in Mathematics, we have been offering two new degree programmes since 2010: Our bachelor's/ master's degree programme in Mathematical Biometry complements basic training in mathematics and computer sciencewith in-depth knowledge in statistics and life sciences (biology and medicine), thus opening up interesting career opportunities for our students, particularly in the pharmaceutical industry and clinical research.

The bachelor's/ master's programme in Computational Science and Engineering, launched in the winter semester 2011/12, focuses on interdisciplinary computer-aided mathematical modelling and simulation of problems, particularly in the natural and engineering sciences, and is offered in cooperation with Ulm University of Applied Sciences.

Management and Economics

In economy and society, processesare increasingly digitisedand decisions are preparedor even automated via data analyses. At the same time, those human abilities that no computer can replace are becoming more and more important. In order to keep up with this development, companies and society are looking for graduates who are driven by a fascination with people and ideas and equipped with the confidence and ability to handle the technologies of digitisation and data science. We train these graduates in our Bachelor in Economic Sciences at Ulm University.

Not sure yet how much competence in digitisation and data scienceyou want and need? No problem, you will find out over the course of your studies! After a classical basic education in business management and macroeconomics as well as an introduction to digitisation and data science, you can choose most of your courses freely from the 4thsemester onwards. Do you want to concentrate fully on management and economics, become a digital expert or go your own individual way module by module? All of the above is possible in the Bachelor in Management and Economics at Ulm University.

Additional qualifications in Mathematics and Management and Management and Economics

A special feature of our study programmes is the crediting of coursework towards the examinations required for particular professions: Our Mathematics and Managementstudents have the opportunity to take all partial examinations of the German Actuarial Association (Deutsche Aktuarvereinigung; short: DAV)that can possibly be taken as part of university studies.

In the Bachelor in Management and Economics, students in the '13b Bachelor' programmecan take examinations that can be credited towards the statutory auditor's examination (Wirtschaftsprüferexamen).
