Recognition of Academic Achievements
Target audience
This webpage is intended for
- students of the Bachelor's and Master's programmes including the programmes for working professionals (SAPS) at Ulm University
- external students who wish to change to one of these study programmes
- Module students
Hint
- If you are enrolled in Human Medicine, Dentistry, Molecular and Translational Neuroscience, Molecular Medicine or Advanced Oncology, please contact your programme coordinator.
- For recognition of internally completed coursework (e.g., when changing study programmes), please contact the Student Administration Office (Studiensekretariat), unless specific programme guidelines indicate a different procedure.
- To apply for recognition of qualifications obtained outside the higher education system, please use the designated form available under "General Forms" on the Forms/Guidelines for Students webpage.
Achievements cannot be recognised if you have already successfully completed the corresponding examination at Ulm University or if you have already entered an examination process at Ulm University (examination registration or unsuccessful examination attempts).
Preparatory steps
The General Study and Examination Regulations for the Bachelor's and Master's programmes (ASPO), which can be found on the website under “General”, cover the recognition of externally acquired study and examination achievements. In particular, the deadlines specified there have to be met.
Following documents are required
- completed application form (PDF)
- evidence of your achievements
- learning agreement, module description(s) or course description(s)
- current transcript of records of your study programme at Ulm University
Additionally, if applicable
- additional pages to the application form
- learning agreement
- grading scheme of the foreign university
- further documents according to the study programme (see specific pogramme information)
Upload all documents to the relevant examination board using the web form below.
In the application form you have to specify the area (account) and, if applicable, the corresponding examination in which the recognized achievement should be credited. Please note:
- Compulsory Courses: You must specify an equivalent examination from your study programme.
- Elective Courses: Ideally, select an examination that closely matches the content, level, and scope (ECTS credits) of the recognized achievement. If no suitable match is available, specify only the area (account) in which the recognition should be applied.
- The crediting of n achievements to m examinations in your study programme at Ulm University is possible, provided they are comparable in terms of content, level and scope.

For the recognition of external examination achievements, please fill out the application for recognition of examination achievments of other study programmes, have it signed by the respective module supervisor as well as the chairperson of the examination board (Prof. Dr. Sybille Ebert) and submit the application to the examination office of Biberach University of Applied Sciences.
Before you want to submit an application for recognition of external examination achievements, please check on the basis of the module descriptions in the module handbook of the M.Sc. The most important points about the procedure in brief:
1. you must submit an application for this independently by making your own proposal as to which achievements from the Ulm degree program you would like to have recognized for achievements that you have already completed elsewhere.
2. possible equivalents are identified by comparing them with the module handbook. Make sure that the credit points are comparable, as are the learning objectives and content. A 1:1 match is not necessary, it is ultimately about comparable competencies, but there should be a plausible similarity.
3. certain data in the application form is important for the further processing of the application by the Examination Board and the Registrar's Office. You can copy-paste this data from the above into the application form and then send it off.
4. In the case of credits earned abroad as part of a mobility that are to be recognized with their original title (only possible in compulsory elective area B), you can use the additional list “Mobility modules abroad” to check whether this recognition has already taken place. If yes, it is available in the list (updated every semester). If not, please still enter the desired destination account in the application as well as the examination number “5xxxx” (in this case, a new number will be assigned by the Registrar's Office).
Recognition of internal credits:
Please note that the process described above is only relevant if you have completed external coursework or coursework in a degree program at Ulm University that has different examination numbers than in the Bachelor's degree program in Chemistry.
If it is a matter of recognizing internal credits that have identical examination numbers in the previous Ulm degree program and in the Bachelor's degree program in Chemistry, no application is required for these credits. To have these credits transferred, it is sufficient to send a marked transcript to the Registrar's Office and ask for the transfer.
In this respect, it is possible that your entire recognition process consists of both this sub-step and the submission of an application for recognition according to the procedure described above.
