Today, enterprises are faced with a continuously increasing amount of data. Many employees (both knowledge-workers and decision-makers) struggle with this data overload as it makes it difficult for them to identify those information which they need to perform their current tasks. In other words, the alignment of process-related information to business processes is difficult. In fact, in practice, this alignment is hard to realize as process information is typically separately handled from business process execution. In order to close this gap, this talk suggests to introduce an new BPM paradigm called "process-oriented information logistics" (POIL). Goal is to provide the right process information, in the right format and quality, at the right place, at the right point in time to the right process participants. More precisely, the POIL paradigm deals with the planning, execution, and control of process information flows within or between enterprises to support the execution of business processes. Thereby, knowledge-intensive business processes implying human interaction and decision-making are focussed, i.e., business processes which are typically not or only partly automated (e.g., by a process management system).
