You can arrange your own individual counselling appointment. Sessions take place at the practice premises on Herdbruckerstraße or at the university. Alternatively, sessions can also be held in neutral locations (e.g. during a walk), by telephone or virtually via Zoom. You can discuss the most suitable format directly with Dr Beata Williams.
Principle
The principle of the counselling is to work together with employees to find tailor-made solutions. Through a variety of ways of exploring ideas (asking questions, listening, scientific explanations, behavioural exercises, tools for better self-understanding and understanding others), space is created for self-reflection and self-empowerment.
Areas of reflection:
Job satisfaction
Satisfaction in the workplace is a key factor and contributes to the health of individuals and entire teams. Job satisfaction is closely linked to personal circumstances, experiences of personal limits and aspirations. Shaping one’s professional activities and relationships with colleagues in a positive and successful manner enhances the sense of personal effectiveness in the workplace. The aim of the counselling session is to better understand and utilise these various aspects.
Coaching for managers
Structures at universities are highly complex and subject to frequent change. Lower and middle management, in particular, are often overwhelmed with HR issues. Finding new solutions to these operational and personnel issues requires a high degree of experience and a willingness to learn. The consultation can open the door to expanding your own scope for action as a leader.
Conflicts in the workplace and in the current environment
Conflicts are part of our everyday lives, both professionally and privately. If conflicts are perceived as unsolvable over a prolonged period, a confidential consultation is a potential constructive step towards seeking new solutions. In individual, team and small-group discussions, new perspectives and solutions can be developed collaboratively within a counselling setting.
Stress management
When being overworked or underchallenged becomes chronic, it is time to take stock. Questions arise such as: What does it take to organise my work and daily life differently? How fulfilling and supportive are my university and private environments and my experiences? What can I improve in both areas and how can I (re)find a healthy balance?
Mastering change processes and transitions
Our professional careers and personal lives present us
with new tasks, roles and, often, limitations. Recognising these and making use of the opportunities they
hold for inner growth and personal integrity is an art of living. Through guided, shared attention and care, new spaces and perspectives can emerge, making professional and personal transitions meaningful and exciting. Possible topics include career planning and development, the transition from colleague to manager, retirement, and taking on new responsibilities.
