Here are a few comments from staff members about cycling to the university:

"I’m probably one of the few mad ones who cycle up the Eselsberg all year round. I set off from Lehrer Tal, where I cycle past the allotments on the left, past the Multschler School towards the Hasenkopf bus stop. That takes me onto Mähringerstraße. However, I don’t continue on the road; instead, I use the cycle path past the Building Authority through the woods. On this route, you can be sure you won’t be run over by a bus, and thanks to the many sports activities offered by the BGM, I also have the necessary fitness and motivation to tackle this route. On campus, I park my bike in the university’s bike cellar. This is located at the south entrance next to the bus stop. The cycle path is relatively well lit and is also cleared in winter. However, for safety reasons, I use studded tyres in winter. And if you overcome your inner sloth and do this often, you’ll find that the hill gets flatter and you feel better.”

"My motivation for cycling lies mainly in the fact that these 16 km I cover each day are pretty much the only exercise I do regularly. A lovely side effect is the beautiful views of Ulm, the fields and, when the Föhn wind allows, the mountains. My route takes me from Safranberg in Ulm through the Örlinger Valley and across fields up to Schapfenmühle in the Jungingen industrial estate, from there on to Lehr and back across the fields to the university campus – first along Helmholtzstraße, then past the Botanical Garden, Uni Süd and finally to my workplace in the library at Uni West. There, I park my bike in a bike rack, which so far has always had space available. The journey up and down the hills takes me about 35 minutes to the university and 25 minutes home."
