Company contact for addiction issues and the Addiction Prevention Working Group
My name is Jürgen Haringer
I am married and have two children.
I have been working as a technician in the Scientific Workshop/Precision Workshop since 1991 and am responsible for electroplating
In addition, I am involved as an emergency responder, a safety officer and, until 2018, also as a staff representative
I have been a member of the Addiction Prevention Working Group https://www.uni-ulm.de/einrichtungen/suchtberatung/ since 2006
My interest in the field of addiction problems in the workplace and the possibilities for workplace addiction prevention was sparked, among other things, by the fact that I myself had problems with alcohol. I therefore have practical experience of acknowledging one’s illness, the role of the line manager and colleagues, withdrawal, therapy, relapse and everything else associated with this dilemma.
Counselling employees at risk of addiction or those suffering from addiction requires both specialist knowledge and specific personal skills and attitudes. That is why I completed training as a workplace addiction support worker in 2009. In 2022, I expanded my knowledge by training as an addiction counsellor at the Paracelsus School of Natural Medicine in Berlin.
In this role, I aim to motivate and support those affected to break free from their addiction. I can outline treatment options for them and accompany them throughout their treatment and reintegration into their daily working lives.
Naturally, my work is subject to professional confidentiality and complements existing in-house counselling services as well as external inpatient and outpatient treatment options.
To ‘stay up to date’, I am a member of the Working Group for Workplace Addiction Support Workers at the Ulm Workplace Chaplaincy, attend various specialist lectures, and participate in the biennial national conferences on ‘Workplace Addiction Prevention and Health Promotion’ organised by universities, colleges and university hospitals.
