KI-KIStLe

Use of dialogue-oriented AI to increase learning success and AI literacy

Dialogue-oriented artificial intelligence (AI) such as ChatGPT, Bing AI, etc. is developing rapidly and has also fully arrived in students' everyday lives. AI tools present new challenges, but also great potential for teaching. Two questions arise: How can AI tools best support students' learning processes? And how can students be prepared for a competent handling of AI tools in later professional life?

The KI-KIStLe aims to develop and evaluate possible uses of dialogue-oriented AI tools to support teaching. The project results are to be made available to teachers across disciplines and universities in the form of validated method cards. For the first time, teachers will have access to a verified set of methods (the so-called "KI-KiStLe") for integrating dialogue-oriented AI tools into teaching.

Funding body: University of Ulm within the framework of the Teaching Incubator

Project period: April 2023 - September 2024

Transfer

The method maps developed within the framework of KI-KIStLes serve as interdisciplinary inspiration for teachers to exploit the potential of AI-based teaching methods in their own teaching. This enables teachers to specifically support the learning process of students with the use of dialogue-oriented AI tools.

In addition, the methods offer a low-threshold opportunity for students to learn how to deal with AI effectively and responsibly through "learning-by-doing". Specifically, the focus is on two central competences: i) the ability to use and apply dialogue-oriented AI tools, and ii) the ability to consider ethical aspects (e.g. fairness & bias, transparency and security).
