Stochastic modeling of tropical cyclone tracks

In this project (in cooperation with Münchener Rückversicherungsgesellschaft) a method for the stochastic simulation of the tracks of hurricanes and typhoons is developed. The aim is to improve risk estimation in regions that are affected by tropical storms. Topics for theses can be for example:

  • Development and adaption of methods from geometrical statistics to compare historical and synthetic tracks.
  • Enhancement of the methods and models to calcluate windfields and hazard maps.
  • Development and implementation of hypothesis tests to compare windfields and hazard maps, which are computed from historical and synthetic track data.
