Colloquium Cognitive Systems

Mitä kuuluu? Studying Electrochromic Displays on the Arctic Circle

Dr.-Ing. Heiko Müller (University of Oldenburg)

Abstract. After completing my PhD at the University of Oldenburg, I chose a postdoc position at the University of Lapland in Rovaniemi, Finland - located on the Arctic Circle and home of Santa Claus - working in the EU-funded research program "DecoChrom", which elevates printed graphics products to the age of interactivity, and empowers the creative industries with the tools and innovative advanced material sets to design and build aesthetically pleasing practical human interfaces to smart consumer goods and environments, by focussing on electrochromics (EC) as the mass producible, print industry compatible, ultra low-power interactive graphics solution for ambient intelligence. This talk will present my experiences in Finland as well as insights into electrochromic displays and our research.

Bio. Heiko Müller is a postdoctoral fellow at the Media Informatics and Multimedia Systems group at the University of Oldenburg. He earned his PhD on "Ambient Light Displays for Temporal Information" from the University of Oldenburg in 2018. Before returning to Oldenburg he spent 18 months in a postdoctoral position working on the EU-funded "DecoChrom" project at the Faculty of Arts and Design at the University of Lapland in Rovaniemi, Finland.

Heiko has co-authored more than 40 peer-reviewed publications at top international venues. His community service includes several chairing positions at international conferences like MobileHCI, Automotive User Interfaces and IEEE ICHI.

In his current position at the University of Oldenburg, Heiko is the coordinator for the DFG-funded Priority Programm 2199 "Scalable Interaction Paradigms for Pervasive Computing Environments".
