If you are facing financial problems during your studies, there are the following support options available.
Tuition Fee Exemption
International students paying the €1,500 Baden-Württemberg tuition fee can apply for a rare exemption in cases of sudden, severe financial hardship (Erlass wegen besonderer Härte). This is processed by Dezernat I (Central Administration).
Scholarships for international students and doctoral students
International students who have registered their thesis or who are nearing graduation can apply for a STIBET scholarship for Finishing a University Degree (Abschlussstipendium).
There is also the possibility to apply for other limited scholarships as well as BAföG for foreign nationals who have a reasonable prospect of remaining in Germany.
Exemption (Erlass / Befreiung) - A full or partial release from the fee
Reimbursement (Erstattung) - A full or partial repayment of costs or expenses, that have been paid
Deferral (Stundung) - A temporary postponement of the fee to a later date, without permanently canceling it.
